Visit to Simonsbath sawmill
|
The mill, which dates from the early 19th century, was comprehensively restored by the Exmoor National Park Authority in 2002/3 thanks to Heritage Lottery Funding. It is now being cared for by a group of enthusiastic volunteers. From Lynton, take the B3223 off the A39. From Minehead, take the A39 east then turn right on to the A396 at Dunster. At Wheddon Cross turn right on to the B3224 then continue on the B3223 to Simonsbath. |
The postcode of the mill is TA24 9SH. However, we shall be met in the public car park at Ashcombe and walk down to the mill - 600m, taking about 10 minutes. This will help put the mill and the associated estate buildings and yards in the context of the uncompleted and now-demolished mansion at Simonsbath. For those who find walking difficult there is limited parking at the mill but it is in the working area and the access is not ideal.
There is a café and a pub in the village, and public toilets in the car park.
