Location: meet at the National Trust car park at the Castle View Visitor Centre, Corfe Castle, Wareham BH20 5DR. Time: we are offering two identical tours, 10.30-12.30 and 14.00-16.00. Description: We shall take a look at the ruins of West Mill and its leat, and then visit the Grade II listed 18th century Boar Mill, which was purchased by the National Trust in 1993. The mill was last used to grind corn in 1950 and nothing had been touched since: it was a time capsule. Some conservation work was undertaken in the mid-1990s. The mill is now home to several species of bat, including a group of male Greater Horseshoes who wait for the females to pass by in the spring on their way to the summer roost on the coast! For this reason, access to the mill is not usually possible. Booking: please note that this event requires pre-booking. To book a place on one of the two tours, please email peter@wessexmillsgroup.org.uk or ring 01275 859028. There will be a charge of £3 per person. Refreshments and toilets: there are many places to eat and drink in Corfe, including the National Trust tea rooms at the castle. See http://corfe-castle.co.uk/eat-drink/. |
